Regulation & compliance
NIS2 / Cybersecurity Legal Framework
Certain entities in the manufacturing industry, including areas such as medical devices, electrical and electronic equipment, machinery and vehicles, may fall under the Cybersecurity Legal Framework, approved by Decree-Law No. 125/2025, which transposes the NIS2 Directive into Portugal. The applicable framework must be assessed based on the entity's activity and characteristics.
IEC 62443
The IEC 62443 series of standards is a reference for the cybersecurity of industrial automation and control systems, including concepts such as zones, conduits and security levels.
Cyber Resilience Act
Manufacturers of products with digital elements covered by the Cyber Resilience Act are subject to cybersecurity requirements throughout the product lifecycle, including vulnerability management. Reporting obligations for actively exploited vulnerabilities and serious incidents apply from September 11, 2026, while most other obligations will apply from December 11, 2027.
