IT, networks and cybersecurity for healthcare

Available clinical systems, protected health data and round-the-clock technical support.

In healthcare, an IT failure can delay appointments, exams and clinical decisions. Overwan manages the networks and systems that support clinical activity, protects patient data with network security and Zero Trust, maintains tested backups and recovery plans, and provides 24x7x365 support to services that operate in shifts, at night and on weekends.

Who we serve

IT challenges in the sector

Critical clinical systems

Clinical records, appointment scheduling, prescriptions and medical imaging depend on systems that cannot go down. Continuous monitoring and rapid incident response reduce the impact on patient care.

Health data

This is special category data under the GDPR. It requires role-based access control, logging of who accesses what, and protection against data leaks.

Ransomware

The healthcare sector has been a frequent target of ransomware. Protected backups and recovery testing are essential to resuming activity.

Network-connected medical equipment

Diagnostic equipment and medical devices running outdated or unpatched software require network segmentation and specific access controls.

Integration between systems

Clinical software, laboratory, imaging, billing and external platforms must exchange information reliably and securely.

Multiple units and mobility

Groups with multiple clinics, mobile professionals and teleconsultation need secure access from any location, with centralized management.

How we help

Regulation & compliance

GDPR

Health-related data is special category data (Article 9 of the GDPR) and requires reinforced technical and organizational measures, such as access control and logging, encryption and, where applicable, a data protection impact assessment.

NIS2 / Legal Cybersecurity Framework

Healthcare providers, reference laboratories and other entities in the sector may fall within the scope of the Legal Cybersecurity Framework (Decree-Law No. 125/2025, transposing the NIS2 Directive). The applicable framework should be assessed based on the entity's activity and size.

European Health Data Space

Regulation (EU) 2025/327, which establishes the European Health Data Space, sets out requirements for electronic health record systems and health data sharing, with phased application over the coming years.

Frequently asked questions

Do you separate medical equipment from the rest of the network?

Yes. Diagnostic equipment, clinical network, administrative network, and guest network are kept separate, with access rules between them, to limit the impact of an incident.

Do you provide support to units that operate at night and on weekends?

Yes. 24x7x365 support covers nights, weekends, and holidays, with continuous monitoring and defined escalation for incidents affecting clinical activity.

Do you work with the clinical software we already use?

Yes. We don't replace the clinical software: we manage the infrastructure it runs on (servers, network, workstations, and backups) and liaise with the software vendor when an issue arises.

Is my clinic covered by NIS2?

It depends on the activity and size. We help with the technical assessment and implementation of security measures; the legal evaluation should be confirmed with your consultant.
